The Taste of Mango, Chloe Abrahams’ feature debut, is an enveloping, hypnotic and urgently personal meditation on family, memory, identity, violence and love. At its centre are three extraordinary women: the director’s mother, Rozana; his grandmother, Jean; and the director herself. Their stories, at turns difficult and exhilarating, speak to the complex and ever-changing nature of inheritance and how we hurt and protect those we love.
