In the end, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role

When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and that he was going to audition people similar to Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they had to at least get him to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn him down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been brought in for the project, leading to interest from other notable actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was elated nonetheless. From the reviews I’m reading here, people seem to either love this show or dislike it quite a bit, and it seems like it might depend on how critics react to Jason Segal.

The relationships are complex and emotional, and the very real human challenges are well drawn

I’ve enjoyed his films and think he’s perfect for this role, and the addition of Harrison Ford takes the show to an even higher level. The writing is excellent, the story is fresh, and the characters are original without being stereotypically overly quirky.

It can be very funny and tear-inducing the next minute

I was very disappointed after the second episode when I realized I’d have to wait longer. Highly recommended!
